smallnoise

en — founded in february 1999, smallnoise publishing defined itself as a creative space for printed matter of all formats and mediums, with the provision that it be reproducible (usually in an edition of 330).  together with the editorial team (caroline vermeulen, françois curlet, andré magnin and francis mary), the invited artists were asked to appropriate the printed page as an experimental space (to be filled with text, photographs, multiples, disks, etc.) and to assume full responsibility for all stages of the book’s creation and development. the adjustments, debates, and quarrels that sometimes occurred between artists and editors over the course of these projects helped strengthen the collaborative nature of this editorial adventure. the economic principles on which smallnoise publishing was founded were simple: a limited budget, entirely financed by the editors. any eventual (and unpredictable) profits generated by distribution and sales were entirely reinvested into the production of further editions. smallnoise publishing was dissolved in 2003 as discreetly and peacefully as it was founded.
